About the Library Director

Riley Moreland, Library Director

After living most of my life in Nebraska, I moved to the Sidney area in 1998 when I married my sweetheart Ray Moreland.  We live in Anderson along with a clowder of cats.  While I do consider myself to be an Iowan, the Huskers are still my team.  Though to be honest, I generally prefer reading a book to watching a sporting event.

I joined the staff of the Sidney Public Library in June of 2016 after retiring from a 30-year career in Information Technology and Banking.  I consider this job to be the perfect second career because being around book lovers and books is truly a joy. For book lovers that also wish to use the latest in reading technology, I am happy to assist if you have any questions about reading or listening to books on your tablet, computer or phone.

When it comes to reading, I generally read fiction.  Science fiction and steampunk are my favorite genres, and if they have a romance element, so much the better!   My favorite books include The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas, Enchantress from the Stars by Sylvia Engdahl and whatever great book I have recently discovered.  I have my own blog (https://whiskeywithmybook.wordpress.com/) where I review and promote a variety of authors and genres that includes science fiction, steampunk, historical, fantasy, paranormal and urban fantasy, most of which also include a dose of romance.  Pretty much any book that goes well with whiskey or tea.

I've always believed anyone's life can be enriched by reading.   I know mine is.
